10 Weight Loss Tips You Can Find in a Balanced Diet

If you are aiming for long term weight loss, ignore fad diets and get back to the basics of a balanced diet.  A balanced eating plan is one that always has plenty of fruit and vegetables, contains sufficient wholegrain cereals, lean meat, fish and low fat dairy products.

  
It is low in salt and reflects an understanding of adequate portion sizes of each of these foods.  It never promotes overeating.

A healthy diet that promotes healthy weight loss, allows you to eat a wide variety of nutritious foods. Follow these 10 tips for healthy weight loss eating.

1.    Eat plenty of vegetables, legumes and fruit that are not only low in calories and high in fiber but contain unique antioxidants that boost your health.

2.    Include cereals (including breads, rice, pasta and noodles) and select wholegrain cereals wherever possible. High in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants cereals also contain fiber. Eaten in correct portions cereals are an effective part of any weight loss program as they take longer to digest and create a feeling of fullness, which discourages overeating.

3.    Lean meat, fish or poultry provide the necessary high levels of protein and healthy omega 3 fats that our body needs and have low levels of fat that assist with weight loss.

4.    Low-fat milks, yoghurts, cheeses are not a threat to good health if consumed in moderation as part of a well-balanced nutritious diet.

5.    Make sure that you drink plenty of water to flush out your kidneys and reduce toxins in your body and to transport nutrients to cells in your body.

6.    Limit your intake of saturated fat and monitor your total fat intake

7.    Always choose foods low in salt

8.    Limit your alcohol intake

9.    Limit your sugar intake.  Replace processed sugar with natural sugar found in products such as honey and fruits.

10.    Avoid restricting your intake of entire food groups (eg fats, carbohydrates) eating healthy portions of each type of food. Discover what portion size of all foods are good for you.
