Important Tips about Weight Loss and Drinking

A healthy weight loss program includes opportunities for plenty of drinking.  But what is the relationship between weight loss and drinking and what should we drink as we lose weight?

The best drink to have as you lose weight is water (and plenty of it).

  
Water reduces your hunger and increases your metabolism.  If contains no energy laden component and in fact reduces this, helping your body to access the stored fat in your body. 

When your body’s water intake diminishes, you feel hunger.  At least 6-8 glasses of water a day will make sure that this does not occur and that you won’t be eating more than you should.  A clever and effective tip for reducing your hunger at meal times is to drink a glass of water before you start eating.  You will feel fuller and eat less.

Fruit juices are deceivingly high energy drinks.  A glass of fruit juice contains around the same energy found in glass of regular soda and about twice the energy content of a piece of fruit.  So beware and restrict or eliminate your fruit juice intake.

As mentioned soda is not a good example of how weight loss and drinking are beneficial.  A regular can of soda contains around 10 teaspoons of sugar.  There is very little nutritional value in a soda and whole lot of energy that you need to work off or store!

Alcohol depresses the body’s nervous system and slows down your metabolism.  In the presence of alcohol, your body takes longer to use the fuel from your food and it is more likely to store this as fat.  Alcohol is also consumed with other energy laden foods and is likely to add to your body weight than help reduce this.  So avoid this drink as you lose weight.

Cow’s milk and soy milk both contain a large amount of fat and energy.  Drink skim milk or low fat milk of both kinds to reduce your energy intake and allow your body to burn excess stored fat.

Sports energy drinks are just that - drinks filled with energy. This needs to be worked off or remains stored as fat.  As you already have stored fat you’re aiming to burn off don’t drink energy drinks.

Successful weight loss and drinking goes hand in hand if what you drink doesn’t contain energy that can add to your already excess store of body fat or if it stops your body from burning this fat.  Drinking water is undoubtedly the best option.
